Directorate of School Education Introduces 10-Day Bagless Period in…

The Directorate of School Education Jammu (DSEJ) has issued a directive to all Chief Education Officers (CEOs) and DIET Principals across the Jammu region to ensure the implementation of a 10-day bagless period in schools within their districts. This initiative is in line with the objectives of the New Education Policy (NEP) 2020.

The bagless period aims to transform the traditional approach to learning by:

  • Encouraging experiential learning: Students will engage in hands-on activities and projects designed to enhance their understanding of concepts through real-life applications.
  • Reducing academic pressure: By moving away from textbooks and routine classroom practices, the initiative seeks to create a stress-free and enjoyable learning environment for students.

During this period, schools are expected to organize various activities such as:

  • Skill-based workshops, where students can explore and develop new abilities.
  • Field trips, providing opportunities for outdoor education and exposure to different environments.
  • Creative sessions, such as art, music, and drama, to promote self-expression and creative thinking.

The move aligns with the NEP 2020’s vision of making education more holistic, flexible, and multidisciplinary while prioritizing students’ overall development.

This initiative is expected to not only foster practical skills and creativity but also nurture critical thinking and problem-solving abilities among students.

Schools across Jammu division are now required to incorporate this period into their academic calendars and report on its successful implementation. Students and parents have been encouraged to embrace this change as a step toward a more engaging and meaningful educational experience.
